Here in Tennessee, winters get well below freezing, so it’s important to properly close and winterize your swimming pool. In this post, we will consider several factors that need to be addressed when closing pool for winter months.
Any water chemistry issues or balancing will need to be adjusted before the pool closing day. Adding lots of chemicals and shutting down the circulation is not a wise move, so handle any water adjustments prior to closing. The swimming pool water should be balanced, clean, and clear for a proper pool closing. Water temperature needs to be close to 60 degrees to minimize algae growth in the pool, this may require running the pool well into late October or early November. Next the pool should be free of any toys, leaves, and debris. This will prevent stains and also help with opening in the spring.
Once swimming pool is clean, proceed to winterize the pool. Superior Pool Service uses the force of air to blow all lines above and below ground free of water. Returns, drains (including main bottom drain), skimmers, equipment, and any water features are blown, plugged, and ready for winter when we finish. Antifreeze is added in every skimmer to prevent damage from freezing.
Finally we add your swimming pool cover. Hopefully this is a pool safety cover, which provides protection for loved ones, assuring no one or nothing else ends up in the pool during the winter! Superior Pool Service is a Loop Loc dealer for pool safety covers, so if your needing one we will be glad to quote and install.
We closed swimming pools in Crossville, Fairfield Glade, Jamestown, Allardt, and Oneida this fall. Superior Pool Service appreciates all our customers, and we treat your swimming pool as our own, making sure the pool and equipment is fully ready for winter months. Perhaps some say the steps we take to winterize your swimming pool is over kill, however as a 20+ year swimming pool professional told me, “when you leave a pool it should be ready for a winter in Maine!”
